Dedicated to Finding Rescue Afghan Hounds their Forever Homes

ABOUT AHRSC

Afghan Hound Rescue of So. California, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2000 and staffed entirely by volunteers. We continue our mission as a non profit whose purpose is to rescue stray, abandoned, relinquished and/ or impounded Afghan Hounds.  Veterinary care is provided prior to adoption according to the dog’s needs, always including spaying or neutering and a dental.  To date, AHRSC has rescued and placed over 500 Afghan Hounds and is dedicated to continuing rescue and rehabilitation of this Breed and have them adopted into permanent loving homes.

25% of dogs in shelters are purebred. Sadly, puppy-mills and pet stores who sell puppies contribute to pet overpopulation. Adoption is a very loving alternative to buying a puppy and it helps control the population of pets!

Since sight hounds in general and Afghan Hounds in particular, do not cope well in shelter and kennel environments, our dogs are placed in loving foster homes where their health and temperaments are evaluated. The dogs are then matched to appropriate new homes. Learn More

from ahrsc to you

If you have visited our site before please note that new rescues are posted often. We usually have Afghan Hounds of varying ages available for adoption.  In addition, please do not judge the Senior hounds as being too old.  Adult and Senior dogs are most always house trained, full of love and are just wanting to be given that chance to show you how special they can be. Many of the Senior hounds get over looked and will most likely live out their life at Rescue if not given a chance. It doesn’t have to be that way. Please contact us about additional information on any of the Rescues and consider giving a Senior dog a chance along with the younger ones. A very big thank you to all the people who support Afghan Hound Rescue of So. California. Without you, these beautiful Afghan Hound Rescues would not know the love they have now.

BECOME A HOUND HERO!

A Hero is someone who changes anyone’s life in a positive way!
Consider Sponsoring a Rescue if you can’t adopt and make a difference in their life.

A very big, heartfelt thanks to the people who currently adopted some of our senior dogs. Thank you for seeing their potential, thank you for loving them and we know they will thank you in return with a multitude of unconditional love and devotion. Our Sponsorship Program allows an individual who is unable to adopt at this time the opportunity to become A “Hound Hero” by making a financial donation towards a particular Rescue’s care. Thanks to all of you from all of us.  Become a Hound Hero!   Learn More

Thank you to all our Volunteers!

There are not enough thank you’s to all the Volunteers and Sponsors who help AHRSC in so many different ways.  Fostering, Hound Hero sponsorship of a Rescue, Rescue pick-ups and transportation, Grooming, photography, raffles and much more…. Most special is to see these Rescues rehabilitated back to healthy Afghan Hounds with a beautiful life ahead of them now.

Courtesy Posting for this beautiful boy, Bowie!

Meet Bowie!!!!
Bowie’s owner passed away suddenly. His owner lived alone with Bowie and his ‘brother’. The ‘brother’ had bone cancer and was humanely euthanized at the recommendation of his veterinarian. Bowie’s world has been turned upside down.
He is eight years old black and tan. He will be neutered next week. He is in good health. He gets along well with other dogs. He enjoys car rides and walks. He uses a doggy dog. He is a very gentle dog and learns a new routine quickly. He is unsure to begin with but warms up with gentle hands and calming voice and seeks out loving reassurance.
Bowie is located in No. CA…. if you are interested in him please contact Ann Sterner at annsterner44@gmail.com
